Focke-Wulf Fw 190D
camouflage & markings, Part II

Cover previewThe content of Part II follows the outline of Part I, with rules and detailed descriptions of colour patterns applied to Fw 190D-9s and D-13s built by the type’s licence manufacturers, i.e., the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Weserflug (Arb. Roland), Mimetall Erfurt and Fieseler Kassel. Separate chapters are dedicated to the influence of repair work on the final appearance of aircraft, and the comparison of different Doras in single units at a specific time.
There is also a “bonus” chapter of a slightly different form, dealing with the detailed analysis of the development of the Fw 190D with Daimler-Benz DB 603 engines, including the Fw 190D-14 and D-15.
The book is fully documented with extracts from original documents, black & white, and colour photographs, as well as numerous colour schemes and colour profiles. It is completed with a comprehensive loss list of the entire Arbeitsgemeinschaft Weserflug, Mimetall Erfurt and Fieseler Kassel production.
Highly recommended for all students of WW II aerial warfare, Fw 190 fans, and modellers.

Samozřejmě, přibudou i nové Fw 190D...
Prosíme o trpělivost.

Dear Gary and Mike,

I apologize for a delay of my (our) replay about a work on Part III of our study about Camouflage and Marking of Fw 190D. I understand, it is a long time of work on it. But I can assure you about a work on the topic and our intention of issue the work.
Please, understand, we are working on other topics in a same time and, for example, now we are finishing a study about Me 262 production and final operations of Ar 234 over Czech lands in 1945. The project will be finished in a beginning of the next year.
We didn´t stop work on Fw 190D and the Part III will arisen. We are using to verify as more as possible information and facts and we don´t want to present any "wild" or unrealistic theories. All of this costs time.
We undestand, you would like to keep the title in your hands as soon as possible ( and we are glad from the interest, of course !), but please, be patient yet.
We hope, other our titles will shorten waiting to the Part III of Fw 190D title.

Warmest regards

Dear Tomáš,

that's a wonderful news.
Will this be the study announced in one of the photo captions on p.146 of "Me 262 of KG and KG(J) units"?
Will it cover the camouflage aspects in regard to each manufacturer?
Can you give a possible date of publishing that book?

Best regards,
Maciej

Dear Maciej,

yes, it will be the study noted in the note on page 146 of the "KG and KG(J)" study. It will focus to a production of Me 262 on our territory (in FWE - recon - and LBB - fighter - factories), include all aspects. Of course, chapters about camouflages of the Me 262s will be there too.
A separate part about final operations of Ar 234 in our lands will be enclosed too.
As usual, several concrete aircrafts (Me 262s, Ar 234s) will be describe in detail there.
My colleague is prepareing a note about the title to our Internet pages.
I suppose an issue in a beginning of the next year, because the study is finished. Now we are in a "checking" phase, specially checking of texts and their translation.

Regards

Tomáš

I know Gary - I keep checking back here every month or so myself (especially as Japo 'Teased Us' at the end of Vol. II with an image of proposed cover for Vol. III).

So, any news? Any updates? Any details on what we can expect and when?

Im particularly interested in the Paints that you guys found in Czech (thought to be from the Bf 109 Diana line, correct?) and whether Vol. III will contain more information/paint chips on all colours possibly used on the Fw 190D.

However, thanks so much for Vol. I and Vol. II :)

Yes, but WHEN?

There are two titles listed that I will definately be giving Japo my money for; Obviously Focke-Wulf Fw 190D - camouflage & markings, Part III, and Messerschmitt Bf 109s of I./EKG(J)... But they are simply listed in Other Projects - NOT Forthcoming Titles (like Luftwaffe Pilot Training in Czech Area 1939–45).

I know I am like the rest of the rest of us, both grateful for Part I/Part II, yet impatient for Part III... But I am trying to save my excitment for when Focke-Wulf Fw 190D - camouflage & markings, Part III shows up in the Forthcoming Titles area.

It would be a WONDERFUL Christmas Present however ;)

It is coming to the end of 2017 and still no real info about FW190D part lll, forthcoming title, estimates of when. ANY NEWS is better than none, which is what is happening for way too long!
A tentative approximate date would be great.
This book is worth the wait, especially as I got l & ll as soon as possible upon their release, but it is taking ages!
More news please!!!!!!!

We apologize for a long term of our answer. We want to react to your information about "not publishing" of Part III of our Fw 190D Camouflage and Marking study.
The info doesn´t came from JaPo. We (JaPo) are sure about a finishing of the study by Part III.
We know, the term of making the Part III is long and a lot of our readers doubt about the title. We can only apologize for such long time of work, but again, we plan to finish it.
All the time from issuing the Part II (we know, it was in 2007 year...) we are collecting next documents and material to the topic. The phase finished now, we are starting a real work on the Part III.
Please, be patient.

I haven't looked at the forums here for a few years until tonight. Great to see that Part III is still being worked on (albeit some 16 months past); if expectations are met, it will be the opus magnus that really makes this series not just complete, but also definitive!

Is it too much to ask about progress?

Like are we still at the stage of compiling data? Has the book been written and is now being proofed and checked and artworks being created? Is it about to go to printers (this is probably wishful thinking ;) )? Any information would be appreciated.

Additionally, will Part III be printed by the same printers in the same format as Part I and II? And are there plans for a reprint of Part 1 and II, to go with the new Part III? It might be nice to be able to buy a complete Three-Part set!

Thanks again - sorry for all the questions :)

Happy 2024 everyone ;)

It's now almost 19 years since Vol I was released, and 17 years since Vol II was released - I am STILL hopeful for Vol III.

On the positive, in the last two years or so, we were lucky enough to get "German Fighters in the West - from Poland to the Defence of the Reich" and in the latest Lw over Czech title "Messerschmitt Bf 109s & Other Aircraft of I./EKG(J)".

And to remain positive, its now almost 23 years since the original "Luftwaffe Over Czech Territory 1945" work was published and the series started (yes, I have this and all six of the Red books too).

But here's to 2024 - maybe we'll see Fw 190D Vol III, maybe we wont. Again being positive about everything, the seventh Lw over Czech Red title "Focke-Wulf Fw 190s of Jagdgeschwader 6 in WWII Final Operations" is due this year, and sounds really good - especially as I. and II. Gruppe JG6 was flying the Dora by the end of 1944.

Thank you again JaPo

Thank you for kind words from Dan. I and all JaPo are glad our books satisfy you!
I hope, our new study about last days of JG 6 will be interesting too. We plan to issue it soon. Information about it will be on our web.
And I can confirm - we are really working on Part III of Camouflage and Marking of Fw 190D. New informations, new snaps, new profiles. The Part III will be the next title from WWII after JG 6 study.
